About Us
Getting to Know Us

As a day care center, Marks of Excellence previously known as Tutor Time, has been situated in North Amityville since opening its doors in 1997. We are a licensed Day Care with a capacity for 161 children ranging from 6 weeks to 12 years. Our school age children are provided with before and after school care, and full day care when the school districts are closed. We also offer an exciting, fun-filled Summer Camp Program during the months of July and August.

Our children are provided with an age appropriate curriculum which includes weekly themes incorporating literacy, math, science, music and social studies. We do this with the use of a Circle Time, arts and crafts, free play, finger plays, stories, experiments, charts, counting activities, manipulatives and puzzles and outside play. The three and four year olds also concentrate on letter recognition and letter writing in preparation for kindergarten.

Our Philosophy

We believe a child’s early experiences enrich and stimulate future growth. Children deserve to be treated, respected, and nurtured as individuals in an environment that welcomes reason, exploration, question, and imagination. We respect each child’s need for love, security, acceptance, warmth, and stimulation.

Our Staff

Each room is staffed keeping in mind the ratios recommended by the Office of Children and Family Services. Our staff receive 30 hours of training every two years on various topics pertaining to Early Childhood. Child CPR, and First Aid and Child Abuse and Maltreatment are included in these training hours. Before they are hired, each person is screened for any complaints regarding Child Abuse or Sex Abuse and is fingerprinted as well. A TB test and a doctor’s note stating that the person is physically and mentally fit to work with children is also required.

Meals

Marks of Excellence is a participant in the Child and Adult Food Program and therefore, the children are provided with well-balanced, nutritional meals, cooked here at the Day Care. A month long menu is displayed in each classroom and if you wish your own copy, please ask at the front desk.

If your child has allergies to any foods, please make us aware and we will adjust your child’s menu accordingly.

We are a Peanut Free day care so none of the foods we serve have any peanuts in them.

Enrollment Requirements

Children must be at least 6 weeks of age in order to be enrolled. Each child must have a completed enrollment package and a health form filled out by a doctor, showing that the child’s immunizations are up to date and the date of the last physical. There is a $75.00 non-refundable registration fee that is due at the time of enrollment and each year afterward. An hour’s visit in the classroom with both child and parent is required prior to a start date. This gives the child an opportunity to acclimate him or herself to the class and gives the parent a chance to talk with the staff about the program and their child.
